Documentation
Rotamer is an organic chemistry workbench: draw a structure in 2D, explore its geometry in 3D, and follow the calculated results. Choose your starting point.
The guides below are available in English. The application interface shown in the screenshots and videos is in Portuguese; the guides explain its labels as you go.
I want to use Rotamer
Section titled “I want to use Rotamer”Start with the user guide. It walks through the workbench, screen by screen:
- Draw atoms, bonds, and rings; select, undo, and use shortcuts.
- Open examples, import SMILES, and search for compounds by name.
- Explore the 3D scene, molecular dynamics, and normal modes.
- Read descriptors and distinguish calculations from the tutor’s hypotheses.
- Practice in the teaching tracks and explore freely in the Optimization track.
- Use accounts, classes, assignments, and features for teachers and administrators.
The editor does not require an account to draw. The AI tutor is optional.
I want to install it at my school or on my machine
Section titled “I want to install it at my school or on my machine”The Docker installation guide covers the full process:
- Check the requirements, clone the project, and prepare the configuration file.
- Change the database password before starting the containers.
- Open the instance, create an account with the school field filled in, and promote it to administrator from the terminal.
- Set up HTTPS for access from outside the local network.
- Keep a routine for updates, backups, and restoration tests.
The administrator then promotes teachers from the same school in Professores da escola (School teachers), under Turmas (Classes).
The same guide explains variables, external services, optional telemetry, and solutions to common problems. Terminal examples specify the environment they require.
I want to contribute
Section titled “I want to contribute”| Guide | What you will find |
|---|---|
| How to contribute | Development environment, tests, and contribution workflow |
| Architecture | Packages, data flow, chemical calculations, and persistence |
| Design system | Tokens, themes, typography, colors, and accessibility |
| Class assignments | Model, rules, and behavior of classroom assignments |
| Third-party libraries | Licenses and external services used by the product |
The deterministic core decides. AI explains. This rule guides every contribution: chemistry and scores are calculated; the tutor interprets results already available.
I want to look inside the project
Section titled “I want to look inside the project”- Why it exists and how the idea started.
- Decisions, including revised choices and their reasons.
- Roadmap and what is out of scope.
- Operating the author’s hosted instance.
- Research on nomenclature.
Found something that could be improved?
Section titled “Found something that could be improved?”Use Edit page to open the English translation in the site’s GitHub repository. Portuguese guides are imported from the Rotamer repository at each build, while English translations are maintained alongside this site and checked against their source revision. You can also report an issue in the project.
